Welcome back to another installment in our new series – I’m A Mom With Tattoos. In case you have missed the last couple, don’t forget to check them out here.
Better late than never right? I’m not sure if anyone even noticed that this isn’t being posted at the usual early hour, but sick children demand attention and time, which leaves me with hardly any of my own to do the things that I love (yes, that means you little blog!). Anyway, I’m here now and that’s what counts.
You guys, I am having so much fun getting to know so much more about people that I have been stalking on Twitter and also meeting new people and hearing snippets of their stories. Not the least of which being the lovely Lisa-Jade who we are about to interrogate about her tattoo. And I don’t know about you, but I’m so flipping cold that one hot beverage is not enough – go make yourself two, or if you’ve had the kind of sleep we’ve had over the last week just shove a spoonful in and chew on it like tobacco. My teeth may be something out of a horror movie, but I’m awake, so there’s that! 😉
Your name and blog deets: Lisa-Jade from Life Like Mine
Your age: 25 years young
Your Occupation: Securities and Legal Assistant at a financial company.
Tell us about your family: I’m not even going to sugar coat it, this is what I do best. I’m a single mom, and my daughter is my entire universe. She is so beautiful and intelligent and has these gorgeous eyes that I can stare into for ages, I swear, I can sometimes hear the ocean. I live with my mommy, sister and niece, a house full of women, it’s great and not so great (less of the time), and Libby (full name: Elizabeth Nirvana) loves with her whole heart and soul. She’s affectionate and gives hugs and kisses and tells us that she loves us so much and that we’re her “best family”. She’s the most amazing little princess and to me, she’s the perfect child (she’s not perfect, just perfect for me).
If you work, tell us a bit more about your working environment – are you regularly in contact with new “clients/public”. What I do is mostly admin based so the most contact I have with clients is telephonically. I have tons of colleagues though.
• Tell us a bit about your tattoo’s, what they are, why you have them, where they are located
My tattoo is something that I’ve always wanted, it’s of a lotus flower (sometimes mistaken as a protea but that’s purely because of the design) and the word “Nirvana” at underneath it on my left shoulder blade. I have it as a symbol of what my daughter means to me. Lotus flowers grow in murky, swamp like water and their roots are way at the bottom with their stem growing tall until the surface of the water where it blossoms into a gorgeous flower. No matter what happens or what twists and turns the journey of life will bring me, my girl will always be my lotus, my beautiful flower even in the darkest situations.
“Nirvana” means place of peace, and she’s that too. When she was born, I found my meaning in this world. To shape and mould this little human and never let her feel unloved or unwanted. I will always want her.
I can’t remember which movie or series it’s from but this grown says that his mother had always told him that if she was to pick her son, out of all the children of the world, she would always pick him, every time; that moved me to tears because I would not pick any other child, it will always be Libby.
She knows that the tattoo is for her, and it makes it so much more special. (She also says she wants one just like mine…)
How old were you when you got your first tattoo? 24 years old (I had it done last year in June)
Do you plan on getting more? Oh yeah, and I have two designs already.
How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? No one in my family has had a particularly bad reaction to my tattoo; my mommy says it looks very feminine even though she doesn’t really like the idea of permanently marking one’s body. I love that she hasn’t had one bad thing to say about mine or my sisters’.
What is the general reaction that “the Public” have towards your tattoo’s? Have you run into any negativity or adversity because of them? It’s been quite positive, I even had had a strange guy run his finger over my tattoo which made me CRINGE!! Personal space violation of epic proportions!! But there has been no negativity towards me having a tattoo.
Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed? Have your design in your head and don’t let ANYONE sway you, also go to someone who knows what they’re doing, especially if it’s a detailed design. It’s permanent!

Lovely post and such a great read…I love all the mom’s with tattoo’s 🙂 xxx
Absolutely beautiful description of the Lotus flower, it’s always been one of my favourite flowers for the exact reasons you described. We often tell Zoe that if we could choose any child in the world we would choose her every time. She asks us to tell that to her so often. I love how much Lisa-Jade loves her girl, it shows in everything she does and says.
Such love for a beautiful child, really moving and special story behind your tattoo Lisa-Jade.
Thats very pretty.
nice post, I am a mom too but dont have any tattos though besides the stretch marks LOL
